Slate Floor Covered in Carpet Glue

The owners of this Rockland County home removed carpeting and discovered a treasure trove of slate flooring. However, they were concerned at the poor condition of the floor, which was covered with a thick layer of carpet glue, so they called us with the hope that we would be able to restore it to a presentable condition. They were very happy to hear that we would be able to meet and exceed their expectations, restoring it to like new!

Our Slate Restoration Process

First, we scraped the excess glue from the slate. Then we used a special, stone-safe cleaner to soften and dissolve the glue that remained.

Slate is more brittle than other types of natural stone, and its restoration must be approached with care. Restoration methods that are standard for
other stone types might have caused damage to the slate, so we used a hard bristle brush to painstakingly scrub the floors by hand.

Once the stone was completely cleaned and stripped, we applied several coats of color enhancing sealer to to bring out the natural beauty of the slate and to inhibit staining. The homeowners were very pleased with the outcome.
